Goodbye Shortcodes, Hello WYSIWYG Plugins!

The old version of Web Express used a functionality called "shortcodes" to insert various types of elements into the Web Express WYSIWYG editor. This included elements such as boxes, buttons, accordions, icons, maps, etc. A shortcode might look like this:

[button url="https://www.colorado.edu" color="blue"]Learn More[/button]

In the new version of Web Express, these have been replaced with a new system called WYSIWYG plugins. These plugins enhance the creation and editing of elements through the WYSIWYG editor.

What happens to Shortcodes during migration?

When a site is migrated, existing shortcodes will be replaced with the new WYSIWYG plugin markup. This is only done during the initial migration of the site, and so trying to add the old shortcodes to your site may result in errors or content not displaying correctly.

The one exception is any shortcodes that are used in your site's contact information. Because that information was stored differently, the old shortcodes were not able to be migrated to the new plugins.

What about shortcodes on a manual rebuild site?

New Web Express sites will not have support for the old WYSIWYG shortcodes. This means you cannot copy & paste a shortcode from your existing site to a new Web Express site. These type of elements will need to be created manually with the new WYSIWYG plugins. trying to add the old shortcodes to your site may result in errors or content not displaying correctly.
