YouTube videos won't play when clicked

Issue

Video reveals are not working and preventing videos from being played. Oftentimes, the video plays only when users are logged into the site.


Cause

GA4 has a built in API for Youtube videos to track video engagement, this API doesn’t work with the video reveal module that’s available from drupal.


Solution

Users need to turn off the video engagement tracking within the enhanced measurement section of the data stream.


  1. First start by clicking the admin gear in the bottom left corner.


  1. Under property settings, click into “data streams:



  1. Under Events → Enhanced Measurement, click the settings gear to open the enhanced measurement menu.

4. Disable “video engagement” by clicking on the slider so it turns gray. 

5. Click Save

6. Refresh the website where the video reveal wasn’t working to confirm video plays.
