Where is the sidebar menu on this basic page?

The sidebar menu, or sub navigation menu, is included on every basic page and will automatically display when a menu hierarchy is created. For pages to appear, they must have a parent link set:

The menu is included in the layouts of all basic pages, which are labeled as the menu placeholders that you can see in the following image:

The three placeholders exist for which ever menu the page is part of: the main menu, secondary menu, or footer menu.

Recreating menu placeholders

In the process of editing a page, it is possible to delete these menu placeholders. If these are deleted the sidebar navigation will no longer display. Follow these steps to recreate the menu placeholders:

Add menu block

When in the layout editor, click the Add block link in the region you want to add the sidebar menu. In the Menus options, chooseMain navigation, Secondary menu, or Footer. If all three placeholders are deleted, you should add back all three just so the menus work if you move the page to a different menu, but you at least need to add the menu the page is part of.

Set the block configuration like shown below.

In the Menu levels section:

• Uncheck the show title checkbox
• Set the Initial visibility level to 2
• Click the Add block button
