Taxonomy
Taxonomy is the science of classification. In Web Express it refers to the method by which your Articles, Newsletters, People and Collections are classified and organized.
Site Taxonomy
- Using the admin menu: select Structure > Taxonomy.
Create Taxonomy Terms
You may populate the vocabularies for articles (category, tag or byline), people (Department, Job Type, and Filters 1-3), newsletters and collections (Categories) These vocabularies will appear automatically when you enter terms from individual content type pages. but you may also prepopulate these terms if you have a set of terms designated that you want to use and stick to a particular structure.
- To create a structure for a taxonomy term, click on the dropdown next to List Items and select Add terms next to the vocabulary item you want to edit.
- Enter the name of the term you wish to add.
- To make it a child term, expand Relations.
- Select a Parent item to nest the term under.
- Click Save to save the term and be able to add more terms
- Click Save and go to list if you are done add terms.
Editing Taxonomy Terms
Editing taxonomy terms from the taxonomy admin page is much more efficient that changing the term on all the individual pages it is associated with. (could be hundreds of edits) Editing taxonomy terms from the taxonomy admin page will update the term on any page it is associate with. (only one edit)
- Edit taxonomy terms by clicking on List terms next to the term you need to edit
- Click Edit.
- Make your changes.
- Click Save.
Arranging Taxonomy Terms
Taxonomy terms are listed alphabetically. You may re-arrange the list and create a custom order to use when displayed on the site. This is most useful when you are grouping people by type on a People List Page.
- Grab the crosshairs next to the term you would like to arrange and drag it to the order you would like it to appear.
- Click Save.
