Roles & Permissions
You may add additional editors or maintainers to your site. Any CU Boulder employee or student with an IdentiKey can be granted access to the website administration area.
There are four core roles available that range from minimal to full site access. Each site has four core roles that can be assigned to users and add-on roles with additional permissions to help customize the site maintenance needs for each site.
Core Roles
- Edit My Content
- Content Editor
- Site Manager
- Site Owner
Edit My Own Content
This role is designed for users who need to be assigned to specific pages. These users will receive regular service communications.
This role can:
- Edit only existing Basic Pages and Person Pages of which they are the author. Here's how to change authorship.
Note: This role cannot edit blocks placed on Basic Pages and Person Pages of which they are the author or upload files (i.e. images or documents)

- Webform Submission Viewer
Content Editor
This is a basic role for a content editor who helps create, edit and update existing content. These users will receive regular service communications.

- Newsletter
- Webform Editor
- Webform Submission Viewer
Site Manager
Main site builder: this role is for main site builders and maintainers. This role should be assigned to a trusted person to build and maintain your website. This role has full access to site content and settings. These users will receive regular service communications.
This role can:
- Edit any page by any author
- Create content
- Create and place blocks
- Administer menus
- Create and manage forms
Add-on roles available:
- Layout Manager
Site Owner
Main authority/contact for the website: Site owners are responsible for the site adhering to university policies on accessibility, brand and copyright. These users will receive critical information, policy updates and regular service communications.
This role has no permissions and it's purpose is to help identify the individual(s) responsible for the site and its content.
Add-on roles available
Layout Manager: Manages custom block library and site block layout.
Newsletter: Adds the permissions to create, edit, and delete Web Express newsletters.
Webform Editor: Adds the permissions to create, edit and delete webforms. Site Managers do not need this role added.
Webform Submission Viewer: Adds the permission to access and download webform submissions. This applies to all forms and is not form specific. Site Managers do not need this role added.
